Determinant Arabic Grammar Between Reality and What Ought to Be (in Arabic)

Auther : Ali Ahmad Madkour

Teaching and learning Arabic grammar in most Arabic schools are still based on the transformational theory, whatever has been said about this theory, the situation in which children learn grammar in the classroom are no doubt different from those in reality. Therefor we should change the bases in a way that enables the pupils to learn the grammar they need in their talking and writing in every day life.

This study has attempted to see to what extent the topics of the determinant grammar are reflected or made use of in the writing assignments. The writings of 90 pupils of the first grade in the intermediate stage in a school in Riyadh City- Saudi Arabia were analyzed. This analysis shows that the topics of the determinant grammar used in the writings are less than those not used furthermore, many grammatical issues appeared in the pupils writings but were not part of the determinant grammar.

Finally, there are three suggested criteria that should be taken into consideration for Grammar Curriculum:

  1. The nature of the subject matter.
  2. The nature of Pupils.
  3. The nature of society.
