Abu Al-Hajjaj Al-Bayyasi A Historian and Man of Letters from Andalus (Spain) (in Arabic)

This paper deals with the age, life and works of Abu Al-Hajjaj Al Bayyasri, A historian and man of letters who was born in Valencia Spain, in 1177 and died in Tunis in 1255.

Al-Bayyasi was born and brought up in andalus at a time of extreme, political turbulence when Muslims were divided among themselves and were continuously harassed by Christians. This age also witnessed the flourishing of the arts and historical as well as Islamic Studies.

AlBayyasi traveled far and wide in andalus in search of knowledge and pleasure, until he acquired a high reputation as a scholar, a teacher. A linguist and a historian. At the same time, he became known for his dissipation homosexuality and miserliness.

When his home town, Valencia, fell in the hands of Christian in 1238, AlBayyasi immigrated to Tunis where he lived in the court of the prince of Tunis, Abi Zakaria Yahya Al0Hafsi. Here he devoted himself to teaching and writing.

Al-Bayyasi left a number of literary and history works. Some of his works have recently been published, but most of his works are still in manuscript.
