The letter 'H' as a Meaningful Element in Persian (in Arabic)

Auther : Mohammad Siddiq Al-Awadi

This paper is concerned with one of the most significant aspects of Modern Persian 9Islamic Persian). It tries to illustrate one of the most important processes of derivation in Persian, namely, drawing an added unpronounced “h” at the end of a very great number of Persian words that end with a consonant. This paper shows how nouns are derived from words that have this added unpronounced “h” sometimes combined with some other letters that indicate the meaning of similarity.

The paper then presents the reader with a detailed explanation of the marks (aneh) and (andeh) and the way they should be properly used, in relation to the contradictory statements of different scholars, old or modern, Persian or otherwise.
