Some Characteristics of the Aged People's Behaviour (in Arabic)

Auther : Ezzat Sayed Ismail

Studies indicate that the behaviour of the aged tends to be slow, and gets worse whenever the behaviour is complicated. Researches tried to determine the factors which underlie the phenomenon. Many variables were examined including; aging and brain damage, depressive mood and slowness, peripheral neuromuscular factors, defective neural processes, structure adaptability to the level of neural activity slowness as adaptive behaviour to protect the aged from faulty behaviour, cautiousness and as responsible for slow behaviour, the correlation between level of physical fitness and psychomotor behaviour, the reaction time responses among various age groups.

Results indicate that complex RT increases as a function of the number of stimuli presented among the two experimental groups. Performance of the aged group is essentially slow in contrast with the other younger group, especially whenever the experimental situation becomes more complicated. The study did not clarify whether the slow responses are due to slowness in data processing or to a deficiency at the executive level of behaviour.
