The Design and Preparation of a Module and Testing its Effectiveness in Teaching Geography for First Secondary Class Students in Jordan in Comparison with the Traditional Method of Instruction (in Arabic)

Auther : Mohammad Al-Gazzawi, Qasim Badr

The objectives of this study were two: 9a) design and prepare a module for the unit of Climate as specified in the General Geography Textbook for the first academic secondary class students in the Jordanian schools. (b) Evaluate the effectiveness of the modularized method of instruction as compared with the traditional method of instruction in teaching geography.

The researchers also constructed an achievement test in geography for the purpose of comparing the immediate and delayed achievement of 1st secondary class students taught geography by the modularized method of instruction with the immediate and delayed achievement of those who were taught the same topics in geography by the traditional method of instruction.

The validity of the test was established by the logical analysis of the content and objectives of the material used, and by a jury of judges. Its reliability was established by the use of the kuder Richardson formula 20. It was found to be 82.

The researchers recommend the use of the modularized method of instruction in teaching geography to all secondary school students. It is also recommended that other similar studies be conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of modularized method of instruction on the achievement of students at all levels of general education stages in Jordan.
