Auther : Moh. Shawqi Bin Ibrahim

This article deals with the small towns in Saudi Arabia. It aims to define and circumscribe the small towns, their functions, and the factors influencing these functions. A set of hypotheses have been designed to achieve the aims of this study. The most important hypothesis indicates that small towns achieved a balance in the rate of workers in different activities. Due to the importance of small towns in giving an important share in the national product and the minor problems which they may cause, it may be expected to recieve the rational governmental support in relation to public expending and services. For this reason, this research focused on analysing the efficiency of education and medical services in small towns. Several statistical methods have been used to achieve the aims of this study such as the multiple regression analysis and the correlation coefficient between several variables. The data of 1974 census have been extensively used for this research, in addition to other data from some governmental departments.

The study confirmed the highly supplement of small towns compared to other cities of different sizes to the national output. Proofs were evidenced of the efficiency of the main services in small towns in Saudi Arabia, although there is some regional variation in the degree of efficiency. The auther has put some suggestions to develop small towns in Saudi Arabia.
