Islamic Exploratory Eyes and Advance Guards in the Age of the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) (in Arabic)

Auther : Ahmed Mohammed Adwan

This article discusses the role of military intelligence during the age of the Prophet in view of the important part played by this group in collecting data about the enemy. The same group also used to perform other equally important and perscribed duties.

Members of this group were carefully selected and trained because of the grave importance attached to its role. However, great attention was paid to the accuracy of the information by relying on different sources and by comparing and sifting of the data, whether written or oral. The Prophet had used such information in planning and fighting most battles against the infidils. It is needless to say that such intelligence data had greatly helped Muslims in winning these battles.

The article further discusses Muslim alertness and vigilence against the enemys intelligence work by emphasising secrecy, and adopting vital security measures. But inspite of these measures some of the enemy spies had managed to infilterate Muslim ranks. Some of these infilterators were actually arrested and tried. Those arrested were treated in a human manners so as to yield useful) information.

The article concludes by stressing the fact that Islam, in case of war and in order to realize the common good of Muslims, has sanctioned such methods which are other-wise prohibited.
