Al-Hadith Tellers in Bahrain from the time of the Prophet Onwards (in Arabic)

Auther : Hussain A. Al-Messrie

The geographical position of Bahrain has an eminent impact on its cultural contacts. Bahrain gained the benefit of its particular position, in its commercial contacts with different cultural centers in Mesopotamia, Persia, Yemen, Hejaz, Greco - Roman sites, and even with the Far Eastern centers in India and China.

On the other hand, these commercial contacts had a spiritual, intellectual and social impact on the Arab population of the state. Idolatry, Magian religious ideas, Judaism and Christianity were known, and were considered by the people of Bahrain. This spiritual background of the population was a good base, and facilitated the acceptance of the new Islamic religion on its appearance at Mecca by the most of tribes of Bahrain.

Spiritual enthusiasm was the impetus for certain tribal elites of Bahrain to travel to the birth place of the Islamic religion at Mecca, and to be in the company of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). That attitude was respected by the Prophet, and was probably motivated by spiritival, economical and political causes. The holy words of the Prophet (AI-Hadith) are the main subject of our current topic, and come under close discussion from different spriritual, educational, social and intellectual viewpoints. Moreover, the tribes of Abd Al-Qassi and Rabiaca are discussed, especially in the way they were affected by political events in the Islamic world at the time of the Rashid caliphate. Indeed, scholars of Bahrain played a major part in the Islamic spiritual and intellectual movement in the Second and Third Century AH, especially at its major cultural centers in Basra, Kuffa and Baghdad.
