Ancient Arabic Narrative: From Periphery to Center (in Arabic)

Auther : Muhammad Obeidullah

Narrative is a universal phenomenon: it is met with in all nations and culture. It is manifested in various patterns and types, from spoken and written word, to images and movements. All human groups, at all times and places, have had their narratives.

Arabs, too, had their narratives, and this research focuses on Arab tradition of narrative from the perspective  of  Narratology, in an attempt to give justice to that tradition, which stet not receive stet its due attention at the hands of ancient scholars. They were preoccupied with poetry, and took it to be “The Record of Arabs”, a labeling that precluded recognition of any other genre.

This research asserts that narrative is also “the Record of the Arabs”, particularly where the common people  and lower classes were concerned; it appears that narrative catered for and addressed the common people, while poetry thrived mostly in the shade of authority, whether literary, political or religious.
