Abd Yaghuth bun Waqas Al-harithi's Elegy: A Textual Analysis (in Arabic)

Auther : Khalid Bani Domi

The study examines the textual aspects of Abd Yaghuth bun Waqas Al-harithis elegy. The poem starts with the following line: Oh, no! You Two Don’t blame me. I am fed to the back teeth with blame.
You two, there is no use in blame neither for you nor for me. The analysis relies on the textual analytic tools available on the following linguistic levels: the grammatical level, the lexical level, the semantic level, and the pragmatic level. The paper aims at demonstrating the contextualization features of the poem on these linguistic levels. On the grammatical level of analysis, pronoun-fronting, contextual fronting, conjoining, etc are dealt with. On the lexicological level, lexicological relations such as repetition, synonymy, antonymy, hyponymy, etc are described and analyzed. On the semantic level, meaning sharedness, generic-specific relation, core meaning, and initial interpretation constraint are scrutinized. On the pragmatic level, two important aspects for understanding and interpreting the poem are analyzed. They are: context and contextual features, and background knowledge.
