Conceit: A Study of the Aesthetics of Poetic Imagery (in Arabic)

Auther : Mariyam Alqahtani

This research aims at exploring the art of using Conceit in Arabic Literature. It aims at specifying the literary standards the critic is expected to meet whenever the structure of  a Conceit is analyzed, studying whether or not the two parts of the Conceit are appropriated before that Conceit is interpreted.  It also aims at emphasizing that a de-contextualized interpretation of a Conceit may lead to misinterpretation as it ignores the text, and the context in which that Conceit is used. Additionally, this research provides a set of objective, academic standards that test the accuracy of a Conceit through analyzing a series of those examples that are, once, said to be inaccurate and literary-awkward because the two parts of the Conceit are inappropriate and clash with each other. In fact, this study demonstrates that through applying the aforementioned standards, those metaphorical images, where Conceit is used and have long been considered as literary-awkward, are in fact literary valid and correct and their maker, the poet, has a point in creating them.
In order to achieve her goal, the researcher has employed the Arabic-
Quranic Literary Criticism Approach as it is the one that scrutinizes the literary text and its influence on the poetic image in a unique way.
