As- Sama'ani's Book, Al-Ansab; a Source for Studying Palestine's Cultural History from the Islamic Era until the Mid 6th Century A.H. (in Arabic).

Auther : Abdulhameed al-Farani , Ghassan Washah

As-Sam'ani's (died 562A.H./1166A.D.) book, Al-Ansab, is regarded as one of the most important sources which recorded cultural data in the Islamic countries until the mid-6th century A.H. The book is full of significant and unique information about Palestine's culture, for it provides with an accurate demographic map of the population of Palestine including its constituents, tribes, areas of residence, and the people's civilizational role in the society. The book also documents important information about scientific and intellectual life in the Palestinian cities and provides rich materials and a clear picture of economic and administrative life in Palestine. It is worth noting that As-Sama'ani's book draws an impressive picture of the civilizational contribution of the Palestinian cities, such that the city of Ramle tops the cultural scene followed by Askalan, Jerusalem, and Gaza city. At the same time, it offers a precise idea of the percentage of attention given by Palestine's scholars to each scientific stream, such that the science of Hadith topped the list and vastly surpassed other sciences. All of the above gives a clear indication of the strong, clear-cut importance of Al-Ansab as an important source of cultural history.
