Philosophy and Cinema: From the Ambiguity of the Relationship to Possibilities of Interchange (in Arabic).

Auther : Badr Mostafa

Despite the large number of Arab studies that dealt with the relationship between philosophy and cinema, most of them remain vague. They only emphasize on the importance of that relationship without trying to reveal the features of that relationship and the foundations upon which it is built. This study attempts to present a proposed framework for studying cinematography by identifying the possibilities of a relationship between cinema and philosophy. The study starts with the hypothesis that the cinematic language is specific, as cinema is a stand-alone field. Attempting to determine where philosophy and cinema intersect does not mean that cinema is dependent on philosophy or vice versa, rather that both philosophy and cinema are visions of the world. This study seeks to illustrate and reinforce this common ground that unites them. As well as providing with a theoretical discussion of its hypothesis, the study presents practical examples that confirm this hypothesis. The researcher chose two contrasting examples, one of which compares some of the concepts and ideas presented by Friedrich Nietzsche with those of the American film director, Quentin Tarantino. The second example compares between the presence of the idea of a hyper-reality in philosophy with its presence in film. The study follows a comparative analytical method to prove its hypothesis.
