The Issue of Palestinian Refugees in the Speeches and Remarks of the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas (2004-2018) (in Arabic).

The study explores the issue of Palestinian refugees in the speeches and remarks of the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, as this issue is especially significant to the Palestinian people. Abbas’ speeches are very important documents. These speeches reflect Abbas’ official point of view regarding the issue of the refugees.  The study aims at identifying the importance of the refugee issue in the speeches of President Mahmoud Abbas by using quantitative and qualitative analysis of these speeches.
The researcher conducted a survey of all of Abbas’ speeches since his taking of office in 2004 until the beginning of 2018.
The quantitative analysis showed that the mention of the refugee issue as well as other terms related to it in Abbas’ speeches is low and little if compared to other major Palestinian issues, seeing as it got a rate of 10.8% only.
The study examines terms related to the refugee issue used by Abbas such as: refugee, the right of return, compensation, UN Resolution 194, UNRWA, camps and places of refuge, diaspora, resettlement, displacement and the Nakba (the Palestinian Catastrophe), and the results showed that Abbas’ speeches included negative views towards the most important part in the refugee issue, which is the right of return.
