The Aesthetical Values of Saudi Folk Dances and Drawing Inspiration from Them When Forming Designs to Bolster the Artistic Creation of Female Students (in Arabic).

Auther : Abeer Alsaadi

The study aims to train students to draw inspiration from the aesthetical values of Saudi folk dances. This would, subsequently, impact their ability to prepare designs that bolster their artistic creation in the field of calligraphy and Islamic decoration.
Much research has been done in the field of art and design that emphasizes on the importance of seeking inspiration from all aspects of culture and its artistic images. However, rarely do they mention drawing inspiration from the aesthetical values of Saudi folk dances. This study seeks to fill this research gap.
The study used a quasi-experimental approach, applying a pre- and post-test on one group. It also used a descriptive approach, specifically the content analysis method, to analyze the students’ designs pre- and post-test. In order to achieve the aim of the study, a form was prepared for analyzing the content of the students’ designs in terms of their skills of artistic creativity. The reliability and validity of the measurement instrument have been confirmed.
The results of the study reveal a statistically significant difference at the level of (α ≤0.05) between the mean rank score of the students as recorded in the form for analyzing the content of their designs (the artistic creation as a whole) on the pre- and post-test. This statistical difference is in favor of the post-test. Also, a statistically significant difference at the level of (α ≤0.05) was found between the mean rank score of the students in relation to each subskill (flexibility, fluency, and originality) on the pre- and post-test, in favor of the post-test.
Finally, the study mentions several recommendations, the most important of which are the following: the need to analyze the elements of heritage and to diversify the ways of presenting them to the students in order to expose their aesthetical values. Moreover, it is vital to focus on developing students’ skills of artistic creativity in the courses offered to them.

Key words: Aesthetical values, Folk dances, Design formulation, Artistic creation.
