Emotional Cognitive Behavioral Psychosomatic Disorders among Kuwaitis before and after the Iraqi Aggression (in Arabic)

Auther : Owaied Al-Mashan

This present study aims at investigating the emotional, behavioral, cognitive and psychosomatic disorders of Kuwaitis before and after the Iraqi invasion.

The sample of the study is composed of 279 Kuwaitis of which 186 were male and 93 female; 160 of the sample were inside Kuwait during invasion and 119 were outside of Kuwait.

T-test showed that emotional, cognitive, behavioral and psychosomatic disorders were higher after the invasion than before. Tools used in this study were Measures of Psychological Stress, by Fimians, 1985, as adapted by Mansour, 1989. Cognitive Disorders by Qasem, 1993, and Psychosomatic Disorders by Vieira 1994, as translated into Arabic by Al-Mashaan 1995.

Results of multiple regression analysis indicated that emotional, cognitive and psychosomatic disorders among females were higher than males. Those who were inside Kuwait showed more behavioral disorders than those who were outside.

There were no significant differences with respect to social status and age, loss of materials, psychological pain and loss of family and friends.
