The present study aims to assess the possible relationship between State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory (Spielbergers; translated to Arabic by Alkorashy), and ten other psychological health related varaibles. These are: general health, trait anxiety, optimism, pessimism, self-esteem, self-regulation, single-mindedness; locus of control; sensitivity to failure; and dwelling. The sample consisted of 145 male and female Kuwaiti college students. Their mean age was 19.7 (SD=2.37). Generally, the results confirmed positive correlation between State-Trait Anger and Anger-In and Anger-Out on one side, and the following variables: general health, trait anxiety, pessimism, locus of cotnrol, sensitivity to failure, and dwelling on the other side. Variables of anger were negatively associated with self-regulation, optimism, and self-esteem. Factor analysis of all the variables used in the study revealed four factors: psychological disorders, apparent anger, aggravation, and latent anger. Regression analysis was also conducted for each anger measure and the results were discussed. The study showed that both anger-in and anger out have negative consequences on health. However, self-control is more associated with positive psychological outcomes. The results also confirmed the concurrent validity for the Arabic version of the State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory, as well as for the newly developed sensitivity to failure and dwelling measures which were used for the first time.
