Women & Crime: New Trend in Criminology

Traditionally there was a lack of interest in studying female offenders among criminologists. Nonetheless, various explanations have emerged since the seventies to explain the sudden increase in female crimes. Some researchers attribute these changes to the changing sex roles & the women’s movement. Others expressed different explanations for the rise in female crimes.
This paper reviews the empirical on Women & Crime. The discussion focuses on the following issues.
(1) Rate & trends in female crimes.
(2) Women offenders & the criminal Justice system.
(3) Women & Prisons.
(4) The etiology of female criminal tendencies.
