On the Business, Economic and Social Applications of Computers in the Arab World: Aspirations and Practical Realities

The first part of this paper summarizes the state of the art in computer technology and its business, economic and social applications.The second part details a survey of current significant applications of computer resources in the Arab world. This survey is based on the research, observation, and practical experience. In several organizations having computing resources. Analysis in this part indicates the existence of a number of major problem areas at the individual, organizational and the macro levels. The final part outline a strategy for bridging the gap between the expectation on one hand, and the realities of using computers on the other. Such a strategy could be implemented on three distinct front; namely, professional associations or institutes, educational centers and institutions, and business or government organizations.
