Strategic Perspectives of the Gulf Earth Quake
Auther : Ibrahim Shakib
This article deals with the strategic thinking of both warring factions in the second Gulf crisis, namely Iraq and the Allied Forces under the leadership of the United States. The analysis provided is divided into three major sections: the first is concerned with the development of the U.S. strategy in the Middle East between 1945-1990; the second deals with the Iraqi Invasion of Kuwait. And the third tackles the major drawbacks of the Iraqi Invasion. The author concludes with a special reference to the Iraqi regime’s miscalculations of two major events; one, the emergence of a New World order under the leadership of the U.S. and two, the consequences of the Malta conference which had put an end to the Cold War between the two major Super-powers.
