The UN and the Gulf Crisis An Active Role of the Security Council

The aim of the study is to discuss and analyses the role of the UN (Security Council) in management of the Gulf Crisis, which began on August 2nd 1990.The study is divided into two main parts, the first deals with the UN system and Security Council Function while the Second Concentrates on the role of the Security Council in management of the crisis. In the first part there is some spotlights on the influence of the great powers on the work of the UN and the development of the role of the Security Council. The Second part of the study has discussed and explained the performance of the Security Council in management of the gulf crisis through presentation and analyzing the main 144 resolutions adopted by the Council during the period of six month. The Author has come to the conclusion that security council has acted according to the UN charter and what was new is that the council used its teeth.
