Changes in Urban Family in Jordan
Auther : Ibrahim I. Othman
This paper includes an attempt to describe and partially explain changes in the urban family in Jordan. It covers a discussion of the general patterns of change, including changes from functionally integrative structures to adaptive ones (e.g. changes. In emphasis from kinship and family to economy), and an attempt to differentiate between structural and institutional changes in order to show, especially in the case of the family, that each may to a great extent occur independently.
The paper also discuss some of the factors introducing family changes. The Socio-economic factor was found to be of major importance; most notable here was the level of education, especially that of women. The last three parts deal with changes in the family, such as changes in mate selection, family relationship, size, status of women, and family planning.
