The Political Consequences of Public Opinion

This paper discusses the most important factors affecting public opinion and its political consequences. These factors can be divided in two categories . the first category constitutes “the climate of public opinion” . It includes : events and the perception of these events as portrayed in the mass media , the socio –economic structure ,and characteristics of political system . the second category refers to the types of political action which reflect the preference of citizens. These may be direct, or indirect . direct actions include elections , demonstrations, revolutionary, movements , and violence. Indirect actions take place through organized channels, such as , parties , interests groups , parliaments, etc .The essential prerequisite for the political consequences of public opinion is to establish effective organized channels , participate political culture , and an informed educated and active citizen .
