The labour force in the GCC countries : The present and the future

This study examines , the national and the foreign labour force for each of the private and public sectors separately in the GCC countries according to size , structure, along with their distribution among occupational categories sectors of economic activities and nationalities . The present study also attempts to examine the effect of the demographic , social and economic factors on the future trends of the foreign labour force in the GCC countries during nineties. The present study uses data published by the different ministries , governmental departments research centers , and regional and international organizations . moreover , the study also draws on the recent research findings and conferences that examined the exchange of labour force and the employment policies in the GCC countries . although the replacement of the foreign labour force by nationals in GCC countries is progressing at an increasing rate , these replacement rates differ by countries , type of economic activities , occupational categories , and sector . in conclusions , any strategies and policies for the replacement of foreign labour force in GCC countries should be part of comprehensive socio – economic plans . it can also be concluded that the success of foreign labour replacement policies depends on many factors , most important among which is the level of achievement of the GCC countries in promoting the objectives and programmes of educational institutions and technical and vocational training centers .
