Social Value System Their Formation and Change in Egypt
Auther : Samir Naim
The formation and change in social value system are treated in their dialectical relationship to historical socio-economic formations in Egypt. During most of their recent history and until in 1952 revolution the Egyptians had been in permanent struggle with natural conditions as well as the oppression of colonialism and the local elements allied with it. Two contradictory characteristics of the social value system resulted from this position: positive revolutionary and negative retreats value. Colonialists and the dominant classes always enforced the negative retreats values but with the increase of oppression and the development of the economy after Mohammed Ali positive revolutionary aspects of value system gained strength. The radical transformations which the Egyptian society witnessed after the 1952 revolution and during the struggle to achieve political and economic independence from imperialism led to the emergence of more positive values, such as equality, dignity, national pride, sacrifice, respect for labor, producativity rationality, secularism…etc. However, negative values dormant until the parasite bourgeoisie class succeeded in taking rower after Nasser’s’ death.
