Social studies instructional objectives and their applications on Cognitive domain

Social studies instructional objectives are statements which are written for students to describe specifically what they will be able to do after completing a prescribed unit of instruction. There are many advantages to using instructional objectives in social studies. The most important ones areL1) they guide the teacher in planning instruction,(2) they aid teachers in devising appropriate tests, and (3) they facilitate learning, because students know what is expected of them. Good social studies instructional objectives have four characteristics: (1) The objective is stated in terms of what the students will do or will produce following instruction,(2) the objective is stated in measurable terms,(3) the objective statement indicates how the objective will be tested, and(4) the objective statement contains qualifying terms that indicate the minimum standard of performance that the instructor will accept. In addition, the social studies teacher should take into consideration Blooms Taxonomy of Educational Objectives when we write his instructional objectives. This taxonomy consists of three domains: Cognitive Domain, Affective Domain, and psychomotor Domain.
