Political Authority and its Social Function: ( A Reinterpretation of Some Aspects of Ghazaly’s Political Thought)
Auther : Idrees Azzam
The focus of this paper is on Ghazaly’s thoughts pertinent to the social function of political authority. To Ghazaly political authority evolves from societal needs for the reinforcement and maintenance of stability. The functions of this authority pertain to those factors that led to its own rise: specifically, aspects of psychological malfunctions and related economic, social and intellectual dysfunction’s.
Two means must be apparently obtained in order for authority to properly function: moral-preventive and legal-habilitatve. Ghazaly delineates the specification to be authority, and also lists the constraints on the function of authority, especially political corruption. The paper also discusses Ghazaly’s views regarding counter-measures to and treatment of such corruption.
