Sociology of Development in the Arab World
Auther : H. Ibrahim Ali
This study begins with a historical survey, tracing the introduction of the subject of development in sociological studies during the last two decades. Special reference is made to the pioneering writings and their influence on the field. The sociology of development in Arab countries is then analytically presented, concentrating on the impact of socioeconomic changes of these decades on development literature.
The second part of the study is concerned with contemporary writings and the introduction of new ideas in the field. The study criticizes the avoidance of certain concepts, such as imperialism and class relations, in most of the current writings on development. It is concluded that the sociology development should be a militant sociology that defends the interests of the Arab people and their right to achieve independent development, democracy and unity.
