The Impact of Technology on Manpower and Employment : With Reference to Kuwait
Auther : Hassan Ali Suleiman
Modern technology is beginning to assume an increasing role in the development of societies, and this paper attempts to tackle some of the complex issues raised by the impact of technological progress on labor and employment.
Technology has had serious consequences on labor requirements and employment, having lead to redundancies through labor displacement, and created new demands in the labor market. The net result of such developments has been the creation of technological unemployment in industrial societies at an unprecedented rate. Governments, trade unions, businesses and specialists are seriously examining this problem, with a view of adopting appropriate measures to tackle unemployment and ensure the availability of the required labor for modern technology. This paper surveys the present situation and relates the subject to the experience in Kuwait.
