Analysis of Goal Achievement at Alexandria University

Auther : Mohammed N. Jame’

Through a sample of 100 professors and associate professors, the most experienced of Alexandria University faculty members, the present study has extracted the relative goal achievement effectiveness and the actual priority allocation of 58 university goal descriptive items. These goal items were formulated from both official statement presented by the 1972 law of Egyptian Universities Organization and also from the actual observations of operational goals, and were classified into five basic groups. For each item and for each group of items the degree of university goal achievement effectiveness was calculated and the average degrees of effectiveness of the basic goal groups were as follows: (a) Educational Process, 84.63 % , (b)  Development of faculty members , 49.18 % , (c)  Community and societal development, 50.12 % , (d)  Rational management , 53.44 %  and  (e)  Research and graduate study, 59.80%.

Depending on the perceived congruency between university actual  goals attainment behavior and the preferred (or desired) behavior, the study has classified the 58 goal items into three categories, i.e. , the consistent, inconsistent and the extremely inconsistent. It is concluded that the university is properly aware of the relative importance of little more than fifty percent of its goals.
