The effect of job stress on psychosomatic disorders and absenteeism among government employees in Kuwait
Auther : Adam Ghazi AL-Obaibi
This study examined the effect of job stress on psychosomatic disorders and absenteeism from work among native Kuwaitis and expatriate employees. The sample consisted of 653 employees 462 native Kuwaitis and 196 expatriates from five government organizations within Kuwait civil service. The results showed that Kuwaitis have higher scores on job stress, psychosomatic disorders and absenteeism than expatriates. Employees with high stress scores in both samples had more psychosomatic disorders than their counterparts with lower stress scores. For both groups the data showed no significant effects or interaction between nationality and stress on employee absenteeism. The results are discussed and some future ideas for research are suggested.
