Auther : Khalaf N. AL-Heeti , Amer A. Hosin
The present study investigates psychological problems and/or disorders among young university students in Iraq. The study employed the 30 item General Health Questionnaire (GHQ) which was orginally designed by Goldberg and was translated into Arabic by the authors. The GHQ was administered to 991 students from three major universities in Iraq: Mosul University (295 students); AL-Mustansiriyah University, Baghdad (386 students); and Basra University (310 students). Multiple regression analysis (forward selection) was carried out. The results showed that overall respondents had a low score (32.14) on the GHQ, regardless of their university. Women scored at a significantly higher rate (33.51) than men (32.19). Furthermore, subjects from large families tended to score at alower level than did their counterparts from small families. Contrary to expectation, students from Al-Mustansiriyah University scored at a higher level on the other groups.
