Creative Thinking : Cross-Cultural Studies Between Saudis and Nigerians

Auther : Mohammed H. Ameer Khan

The purpose of the present study is to determine cultural differences in creative ability between Saudi and Nigerian secondary school students. It was hypothesized that there would be significant differences in the sub scores of non-verbal creative thinking (fluency, flexibility, originality and elaboration) and sub scores of varbal creative thinking (fluency, flexibility and originality). The sample consisted of 200 male Saudi students and 120 male and female Nigerian students, and the study used the Torrance Test of Creative Thinking for different cultures. Analysis of the data revealed that Saudi students performed significantly better than Nigerian students in sub scores of nonverbal creative thinking (elaboration) and all sub scores of verbal creative thinking (fluency, flexibility and originality). The overall findings were that there are significant differences between Saudi students and others.
