Israeli Settlements and the Political Resolutions
Auther : Nizam M. Barakat
The role of Israeli settlement in the occupied Arab territories since 1967 is studied and analyzed. First, this issue is analyzed from the point of view of international law and United Nations principles of International Law and United Nations resolutions and thus, it is illegal. Second, the attitudes of Israeli, Arab, and international parties are studied in relation to their political settlement schemes. It is noted that there is a wide spectrum of attitudes ranging from the demand to dismantling the settlement to the demand for their continuity and maintenance. Finally, it is shown that the Israeli settlement has changed from a side issue that was a result of Israeli occupation per se to a fundamental issue which should be solved in order to reach a political settlement in future.
