Perceptual Cognitive Styles Differences Among Children , Youth and elderly people from both sex

Auther : Anwar AL- Sharqawee

Cognitive styles have an important role in discovering the individual differences in perceptual cognitive domain and other cognitive domains , as well as in educational , professional social and personality domains . The cognitive style Dependence –Independence used in this study reflects the method with which the person perceives the situation or the elements present in the situation , including details . There for individuals who depend their perception clearly on the domain including its elements are called Dependents individuals of perceptual domain . In the other hand , individuals who can not perceive domains elements separately or independently from its back ground are called Independents Individuals of perceptual domain. This study concentrate on three stages of the individual life ; childhood, adulthood, and aging. The aim is to know if there are clear differences between individuals in these stages in Dependence -Independence of the perceptual domain – or nit ? and if there are specific differences between sexes in each life stages- or not? This is the benefit from the result of this study in the different fields of guidance& counseling. The included shapes test was applied in this study with sample of children , youth and elderly people from both sexes .The slightly high score indicates that a person prefers independence perceptual domain, and on the other hand the low grade indicates that a person prefers dependence on the in the perceptual domain .T test was used to identify the significance of the differences between groups. Results came out revealing that there are statically significant differences between youth performance on this test and both children & elderly people for the benefit of youth . this reveals that youth prefer somehow independence from perceptual domain though – and in the other hands – children scores on that test are relatively low , rise at youth stage and then back to low down for elderly people. Results didnt come out with statistically significant differences between sexes except for youth . And these differences were in the benefit of girls which means that they tend to be more independent of the perceptual domain comparing to boys . These results were interpreted , taking in consideration the study problem, results of pervious studies , and interpretations of developmental psychology concerning social and psychological characteristics of individuals in these age stages.
