How employed women manage household expenditure and spend income are the issues of this study with focus on households in which both spouses earn income. Enquires include: how women financially contribute to the household budget and to what extent; and whether or not their contributions have an effect on the role of men. The study aimed to explore aspects of gender relations in a situation where a woman takes a typically-male responsibility. Data were collected from 164 wives working in Riyadh Public Schools. Finding have shown that women provide significantly to maintain their families, and that alteration in sex roles in favor of women is taking place in Saudi society; albeit slow. No evidence of male dominance was concluded, however. Additionally, results revealed that the vast majority of respondents do not plan household budget beforehand. Further studies should depict a broad picture of gender relations in light of the increasingly number of Saudi women joining the labor market.
