Optimism and Pessimism:A Cross- Cultural Comparison betweenthe Lebanese and the Kuwaitis

The goal of this study is to get acquainted with the differences in optimism and pessimism between the Lebanese and the Kuwaitis, also between males and females. The sample was composed of 1587 students from both Lebanese and Kuwaiti universities: (717) Lebanese students and (870) Kuwaiti students. The results show that there are main differences between the Lebanese and the Kuwaitis: The Kuwaitis are more optimistic and more pessimistic than the Lebanese. The study also demonstrates major differences in optimism, as the male Lebanese were found to be more pessimistic than the females. The results also show major differences between the sexes in optimism in the Kuwaiti population, where the male Kuwaitis obtained a mean higher than the females. No major differences were found in pessimism.
