Attitudes of Omanis towards the Elderly: Sociological Field Study

This study aims at understanding the attitudes of Omanis towards some issues related to the elderly, the way they envisage the role of the family in taking care of them, and the facilities that the government provides for them. Muscat Governorate has been specified as the geographical framework of the study. The sample of the study includes 250 Omani citizens (randomly chosen quota). As for the data collection, the researcher has resorted to questionnaire.

Some of the findings of the study are as follows:

- There are clear positive attitudes of Omanis towards the elderly.

- The role of the family in taking care of the elderly is pivotal.

- The importance of the different government types of assistance to the elderly.

- The importance of establishing long-term relations with the elderly in the family or at work.

- The absence of any effect of these variables: Gender and Difference of educational levels regarding differences in attitudes towards the elderly.
