The Reality of the Arab Civil Society and its Future

Globalization and its relationship to civil society has recently been a topic of great concern in many studies and writings, especially in the field of social sciences. However, reviewing such literature reveals numerous discrepancies related to the interpretation of the concept of globalization and civil society, including the complexity of their relationship. Therefore, the study tries to present an understanding of the influence that globalization has had upon the contemporary civil society, especially in shaping its trends and characteristics. The paper also argues that Arab civil society must be given the political and social opportunity to become more influential in its society. This will definitely help achieve the hope of a healthy society which is able to meet contemporary and future challenges such as poverty, unemployment, crime, fundamentalism, terrorism, and environmental pollution, as well as the deterioration of freedom and democracy.
