Bibliometric Study of Books Published by King Saud University from 1969 - 2008

This bibliometric study deals with the books published by King Saud University during the period 1969 to 2008. The main purpose is to trace the quantitative and qualitative development of book production. The study also evaluates the significance of the subject matter presented in these books. In particular, how many books were written by individual authors, or by joint authors or by organizations is investigated. Two periods are quite conspicuous in this study. These periods are from 1969 - 1973 and 1999 - 2003. During the period 1999 - 2003, the largest number of books were published by the university, and in the same period the biggest number of original books were written by individuals, as well as by joint authors. During this period the largest number of books were composed and translated. During the period 1969 - 1973, the smallest numbers of books were produced. The study also indicates that during this period no translation work was produced by individual or joint authors. The period 1969 - 1973 is the least productive period as a whole. The findings and recommendations of the study might help in setting future plans and new directions for KSU scientific publications.
