Determinants of Attitudes to Religion and their Impact on Fertility Behavior
Auther : Muneer Karadsheh - Nayef Al-Banawe
The objective of this study is to investigate the relationship between demographic and socioeconomic variables and attitudes to religion in Jordan. The raw data for the study was taken from the Jordan Population and Family Health Survey 2002 (JPFHS), which was conducted by the Department of Statistics. The study employs descriptive and non-descriptive statistics, such as Logistic Regression Analysis and General Linear Model (GLM). The findings show that nearly 5% of married women in Jordan report having attitudes to religion affecting their reproductive life.
The findings also show that the women’s level of education, age at marriage, current age, family size and over-use of contraceptives have a significant relationship with their attitudes to religion. The husband’s level of education, kinship marriage patterns, women’s worker status, premarital examinations and the women’s level of education have been found to have no important relationship with attitudes to religion in the family.
Key words: Social variables, Demographic variables, Reproductive behavior, Attitudes to religion.
