Suicide Ideation among a Sample of Kuwait University Undergraduates: A Correlational Study
Auther : Reem B. Al Salman Bader M. Al Ansari
The study aims to identify the nature of the relationship between suicide ideation and both depression and hopelessness among a sample of Kuwaiti students, and to determine the extent of regularity ascribed to these variables in a unipolar explanatory factor among the subjects of the sample. The sample consisted of (1000) university students comprising (285) males and (715) females. The following instruments were used: Beck Suicide Ideation Scale BSS, Beck Depression Inventory BDI-II, and Beck Hopelessness Scale BHS. The results revealed a positive relationship between suicide ideation and hopelessness (r=.62) and with depression (r=.56) for males. The results also revealed a factor similarity between male and female factors in suicide ideation. The explanatory factor analysis revealed a unipolar based on study variables.
Keywords: Suicide Ideation, Depression, Hopelessness.
