The Relationship between Mono/Multi Mindedness and Learning Styles and Some Personal Variables among Secondary School Students in the State of Kuwait

The main aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between mono/multi mindedness and learning styles and some personal variables among secondary school students. The sample of the study consisted of (318) secondary school students from Al-Ahmadi Governorate in the State of Kuwait, comprising 136 males and 155 females, whose ages ranged between (16 -19yrs) with (M=16.9 yrs., SD= 0.46 yrs.). This study implemented the following tools of analysis: a) The mono/multi mindedness scale, and b) the learning styles scale, whose validity and reliability were previously verified. The study results clearly showed the following: 1) there were statistically significant differences between male and female students in deep learning style, surface learning style and academic attainment that were positively in favor of females; 2) there were statistically significant differences between students with mono mindedness and students with multi mindedness in learning styles (deep style and strategic style), in favor of multi mindedness students, while it was in favor of mono mindedness students in surface style; 3) there was a significant negative correlation between mono/multi mindedness and learning styles among the total sample of the study; 4) the variable of surface learning style was considered a strong predictor of mono/multi mindedness among the total sample of the study; and 5) there was a statistically significant effect of the interaction between gender and academic major in shaping mono/multi mindedness among the total sample of the study.
