Marital Imbalances in Kuwait: A Social Study of Gender Differences and the Impact of Demographic Factors

Auther : Malak AL-Rasheed

The study aims to identify the factors (demographic and personal) that lead to marital imbalances among a sample of Kuwaiti families. The study sample consisted of 1081 individuals in the Kuwaiti society, including 398 males which is equivalent to (36.8%), and 683 females that is equivalent to (63.2%) of the total number of respondents. Respondents completed a questionnaire containing preliminary data, demographic data, and a test of the causes of marital imbalances (Alsaid, 2005). The results showed that females were more aware and had a greater sense of marital imbalances and their numerous diverse causes, compared to males; these gender differences were statistically significant. As for the rest of demographic indicators, the results showed that the younger married couples, with fewer years of marriage are the most reporting of marital imbalances compared to the older couples with more years of marriage. Results of the study were discussed in light of theoretical data and the results of previous studies, and a number of recommendations of relevance were proposed.
