Emotional Intelligence and its Relation to School Adjustment and Academic Achievement for Secondary School Students

The present study aimed to explore the relationship between emotional intelligence and both of school adjustment and academic achievement among secondary school students. This study was administrated among (200) students from secondary school students, whose ages range between (15 -19) years, with an age average of (15.6) years, and standard deviation of (1.01) years. The students were selected from areas of Hadyah, Fahad AlAhmad and Rega in the Ahmadi Governorate of Kuwait. This study included the following tools: a) Academic achievement, b) Scale of Emotional Intelligence, and c) Scale of School Adjustment. The findings of the study were as follows: 1) there were statistically significant differences between students with high emotional intelligence and those with low emotional intelligence in academic achievement and school adjustment. These differences showed positive indications to the first group; 2) there was a significant positive correlation between the emotional intelligence and school adjustment; 3) there was a significant positive correlation between emotional intelligence and academic achievement; 4) school adjustment is the best predictor to emotional intelligence; and 5) the level of academic achievement of the students together with the level of emotional intelligence and the interaction between them contribute to shaping school adjustment.
