Civil Society Institutions and the Government: A Mutual Relationship Jordan (A Case Study)
Auther : Mohammed Ahmad Almoqdad Ameen Ali Alazzam
The current study aimed to diagnose the relationship between civil society organizations and the government in general, and Jordan as a case study in particular. To achieve this goal the study explored the nature of the independent role played by non-governmental organizations and their ability to achieve its multiple development goals. Moreover, the study focused on the main reasons for the increasing number of these institutions, and provided further clarifications of the reasons for poor cooperation between the government and civil society institutions.
To achieve the research goals the study used a descriptive method as this approach is transparent and all assumptions made by the study can be seen and questioned. Therefore, by this approach the researcher could explore the elements of government policy by exercising increasing pressure to affect the performance of Jordanian non-governmental institutions and diagnose the multiple challenges and obstacles that still face NGOs to activate their roles in the reform process and modernization. It is concluded in this study that although Jordan has witnessed a significant increase in the number of civil society organizations, the NGOs are still suffering from poor performance due to a lack of necessary cooperation and coordination with each other, and as a result of weak governments' contribution to revitalize the NGOs' performance.
