The Relative Contribution of some Personality Traits in the Prediction of Social Competence among Evening Club Members in the State of Kuwait

The present study addressed a number of goals, the most important of which is to know the relative contribution of some personality traits in the prediction of social competence aqmong evening club members in the State of Kuwait. This study was administrated on a sample of (291) evening club members, whose ages ranged between 15-18 yrs (M=16.4 yrs, SD= 1.7), and included 148 males and 143 females. This study included the following measuring tools: the scale of social competence, the scale of self-confidence, the scale of intutition, and the scale of optimism. The findings of the study were as follows: 1) there were statistically significant differences between males and females in social competence and optimism. 2) There was a positive statistically significant correlation between social competence and other study variables among the sample of females. 3) The results of stepwise regression showed that among the sample of females the self-confidence variable is the strongest predictor of social competence followed by the intuition variable, and then the optimism variable.
Finally, the study reached a general conclusion stating that there are some personality traits the habe a positive impact on the prediction of social competence in the females sample only, on the contrary of those aspects of the results in the males sample, which needs further detailed prospective studies in the psychological and educational fields to identify the most important personality traits, which have a positive impact on the process of promoting the special components of social competence.
