The Societal Challenges Facing the Elderly in Muscat: An Analytical Quantitative Study

The aim of this study is to investigate the most important societal challeges faced by the elderly in Muscat, and to identify the impact of independent variables, such as (Gender, age and educational level) and other independent variables on the attitudes of the elderly towards the societal challenges and the difficulties facing them. A sample survey methodology was employed along with descriptive approaches, and a questionnaire was distributed among non-probability sample of )2332) elderly citizens as a tool for data collection. The results showed that the "lack of respect" from the youth, the youngsters and the neighbors was the most important societal challenge facing the elgrely, and that the elderly of the age groups (60-64) and (70-74) and the elderly with low educational leels (Illiterate, those who can read and write) are the ones who suffered the most of societal challenges, The results also showed that the "educational level" is the best variable to explain the attitudes of the elderly towards the societal challenges facing them.
