Auther : Muneer Karadsheh Nasser Al-Mawali Ahmed Al-Ya'aqubi
The purpose of this study is to investigate the scenarios of the Omani society population by looking into the estimates of population growth, age and gender distribution, as well as the volume of inhabitants' needs for water, education and health services until 2040, based on the data and indicators obtained from the National Center for Statistics and Information. A descriptive approach has been implemented in the study, and it was found that the total population of the Sultanate will exceed (4.9) million in 2020, including 2,630,394 of Omani citizens due to high fertility rates, which means an expected increase of about (727) thousand people. The results also indicated that the population of the Sultanate will exceed (6.77) million people by 2040, according to high fertility scenario. With respect to education, the average per capita expenditure on Omani students at different levels of education is currently estimated at about (2377) OMR. According to population growth scenarios, if this cost remains steady at its current levels, it is expected that the amount of (285) million OMR shall be needed to cover the expected increase in the numbers of enrolled students.
