Some Factors Responsible for Self - Esteem among a Sample of University Students

The study aimed at identify some of the environmental and demographic factors affecting self esteem of a sample of university stundents drawn from different Kuwaiti governorates in terms of gender, age, social status, and cultural differences..
Method: participants (n = 597) (315) female (282) male. Average age was (21.00) with SD of (3.16).
The study adopted a scientific comparative method aimed at examining some sectors of Kuwaiti society in terms of gender, age and social status, and identifying possible differences between the governments. The study used three statistical tests to verify the proposed hypotheses: a T.test for testing the significance of differences between the averages, an ANOVA ANOVA, and the Scheffe Test " to compare the averages to determine the direction of the differences between groups. The study used Rosenberg Self-Esteem scale to measure Self- Esteem degree of participants. It also used data collection sheet to gather information about each participant.
Statistical analyses of the study led to the following results:
- There were significant statistical differences at the level of (0.01) among the males' averages versus females on the Rosenberg Self-Esteem scale for the benefit of males.
- There were significant statistical differences at the level of (0.01) among the four age groups: (18 - 22), (23 - 27), (28 - 32) and (33 years and above).
- There are significant statistical differences at the level of (0.01) between the four age groups: (18 - 22), (23 - 27), (28 - 32) and (33 years and above).
- There were significant differences at the level of (0.01) between the average of Ahmadi Governorate group, and the Governorates of Farwanya, Hawali, and Mubarak Al Kabeer on the level of Self- Esteem.
- Significant statistical differences were found at the level of (0.01) between average of Al Jahra Governorate and the groups of Farwanya, Hawali and Mubarak Al Kabeer on the level of Self- Esteem.
- There were significant statistical differences between Ahmadi and Al Jahra Governorates, and Mubarak Al Kabeer on the level of Self- Esteem at the level of (0.01).
